Hey, You! I’m back in the feed today with a post about social media and some updates.
Isn’t that what social media is all about? You may or may not know that bloggers (people with websites like this one) have many obligations. Some we choose and some choose us.
Our blogs/websites are spaces we own and operate. Platforms are tools that enable us to interact with others by both sharing and consuming information. Examples of platforms are Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Houzz, Tumblr and LinkedIn, etc.
In FIRE – MY 2ND FAVORITE ‘F’ WORD, I shared my frustration with one particular platform (ssh, don’t tell Facebook I’m talking about them). The thing is, each platform has rules and operating procedures that can indeed cause angst. It’s not that I don’t want to be social and network. I do! Believe me, that’s the problem.
After the FIRE post, I got a note from Facebook saying, “183 people who like Princess & The Yard Ape haven’t heard from you in a while. Write a post” So I did. I’m pretty sure this is like getting a gold star for good behaviour because my posts are getting engagement today. I apologised to the people I hadn’t communicated with and reached 113 people rather than only 19 today when I shared about getting my last article.
Do you see why it was something I wanted to set on fire? I just want to write stories and take beautiful pictures and share them with people. It can’t be that hard.
In pursuit of sanity and happiness, I promise to keep trying to please Facebook (thanks a lot for forcing your will on me!) and figure out ways to connect with others out there in the interwebesphere.
In other social media news, I take part in an activity called #RecipeNod. It has a hashtag (#) so that all the people who participate can see what everyone does. Each month we get assigned another blog, and we make one of the recipes on that website. Then, we give them a ‘shout out’ on our Social Media feeds (the ones I mentioned above). We are supposed to do it ‘naturally’, except I’m not sure how to do it that way.
It is completely natural for me to give high-fives, cheers, support and thank you’s, etc… to just about anyone but ‘naturally’ and have it make sense is something I enlist unicorns to help me with.
Unicorns are all about fun, and when you hitch your wagon to one of them, you have a good time too!
In March, I was matched with www.chewsandbrews.ca – great title eh? At first glance, there wasn’t much chemistry. The photos were difficult to get excited about (trust me, food photography is harder than it sounds), and all the “Chews” were animal based. (As I wrinkle my nose, you need to know, I only eat veggies) But, the “BREWS” had me at hello and so did the biography picture of Cassandrea. 2017 is about fun, so I decided to recreate her bio picture and do a little riff on the doppelganger effect.
I then found Chews & Brews on Pinterest. My photo dilemma was solved, and that’s where I spotted the Ten-Finger-Burger.
Holy Geez and Ka-Bang! THIS was something I could wrap my hands around. LOL.
Obviously, to do it I had to have a vegetarian burger, but the rest was easy to re-create. I even managed to get some deep fried dill pickle shreds piled on top to meet the 10-finger requirement. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to pursue the hoppiness in this situation. Pairing a BREW was almost as slick as the sun shining and an IPA had me glowing in no time.
In a month, I went from criticism to inspiration. Looking at things a differently is great and of course, the BREWS certainly helped. I learned so much about Social Media and the activity #RecipeNod.
The great principles of life and the internet trump me, yet again.
